CP Printing Provides Colordyne 3800 Sequence AP – Retrofit

CP Printing, a custom label printer in Elk Grove, CA, USA, has installed a Colordyne Technologies 3800 series AP retrofit with aqueous pigment inkjet technology. By adding a second upgrade with inkjet printers, CP Printing can better meet customer demands for greater flexibility, faster turnaround times and affordable short-term production.

Founded in 2001, CP Printing is dedicated to providing high quality products, providing exceptional service, and building personal trust with every label they print. The company serves a wide variety of markets including food and beverage, health and beauty, industrial, housewares, narrow web label and offset manufacturing, among others. CP Printing understands that digital printing helps achieve the benefits its customers want and that retrofitting is a cost-effective way to add inkjet production to its business.

“The flexibility of digital printing is enormous for our company,” said Jeffery Wilkendorf, general manager and owner of CP Printing. “We currently have jobs that we’re flexographic printing that we’re going to switch to retrofitting with water-based pigments. We’re doing this because we can get labels to customers faster. By working with Colordyne Technologies, we can improve our lead times and keep them up.” they are way below market standards. This is a huge benefit that allows us to develop new channels and diversify our business. “

CP Printing acquired its first Colordyne press, the AQ – Retrofit of the 3600 series, in 2014. This water-based dye inkjet solution helped the label converter meet the increasing demands for affordable versioning and fast response times. In January 2021, CP Printing secured the AP – Retrofit Powered by Memjet of the 3800 series to provide additional digital capacity while offering an expanded range of materials and improved print durability.

“Affordability is a major benefit of retrofitting water-based pigments,” said Wilkendorf. “Printing low volume and highly customized labels is simply more efficient and cost effective with digital. In addition, inkjet production gives customers the flexibility to make changes at any time without increasing the cost of ordering new plates.”

The labeling laws in many of the markets in which CP Printing operates are constantly changing. This means that necessary label changes must be made quickly and efficiently. With digital printing, the label converter helps its customers reduce costs by eliminating the need for flexo plates and waste from preprinted label stocks.

“We have worked closely with CP Printing for many years and they value the unique benefits digital printing brings to their customers,” said Taylor Buckthorpe, sales director, Colordyne Technologies. “We are focused on reducing production costs to support the growth of CP Printing’s digital business. Our goal is to help them deliver the best possible label to their customers quickly and cheaply. We are excited about the expanded capabilities of CP Printing, including their evaluation of hybrid production. “

By retrofitting, new and existing analog devices can take advantage of full-color digital printing such as faster throughput times, on-demand production and cost-effective versioning. CP Printing decided to retrofit Colordyne’s water-based pigment inkjet engine with a flexo press that would allow the analog system to retain its original functionality, including the use of flexo stations and finishing. The retrofit allows operators to be quickly trained on the digital equipment while utilizing their flexo experience, and the digital engine does not take up any additional space on the pressroom floor.

“What Colordyne was able to find out by retrofitting a flexo press is incredible,” said Wilkendorf. “The double throughput with the same space requirement and the same printing press operator is a great advantage for us. Operationally, it cannot be surpassed.”
