Dangerous Concept Comics To Launch Not-First-Printing Variants

Bleeding Cool talked about Bad Idea, the new comic book publisher from Dinesh Shamdasani, Hunter Gorinson, Atom Freeman, Warren Simons, and Joshua Jones for what now looks like forever, from the buyout of Valiant by DMG. A direct-to-retailer publisher that does away with digital and off-the-shelf paperbacks and prefers to sell one-title-per-person comics for big comic names. And now get rid of the second, third, fourth pressure variant. The latest writing is;

Comic book lovers no longer have to suffer the agony of a hot book (or a book that really goes out of their way to convince people that it’s hot) heralding new prints wave after wave. Second, third, fourth, fifth, even sixth printing … is nothing sacred? Infinite variants! By the power of Kirby Krackle, I judge you.

And why? Comics has always been based on the basic assumption that there are some legal reasons that publishers must adhere to when labeling their new prints. At BAD IDEA we say ENOUGH. No expense has been spared to compile the potential cost of hiring the crack team of legal professionals necessary to validate our gut instinct that we could just do this and potentially have no consequences.

Read this next part slowly, its experimental genius is well worth enjoying, like fresh ramen. This is how it works:

When a BAD IDEA comic sells out – WHEN a BAD IDEA comic sells out – and there is sufficient demand for more, we’ll go back to printing and make a new print for the same price and with all First Print content, including The extra b-side story we add to every BAD IDEA comic. Sounds normal so far, BUT instead of marking it as a second print, this new edition will be part of a potential series of NOT FIRST PRINTING copies that will be identical in every way to all other NOT FIRST PRINTINGS copies, regardless of when they were printed. So when we have sold out our batch of NOT FIRST PRINTINGS, which are actually second printings, we return to the press and create a new print. A third pressure. But this new edition is also called NOT FIRST PRINT, although it is actually the third print, and is identical to the NOT FIRST PRINT, which was actually the second print. Even the UPC and the information remain unchanged.

Right, BAD IDEA can and will release new prints that are indistinguishable from one another. The only exception is the actual first print, which has a slight change in the top color, has a clear first printing slug in the UPC and is marked in the information.

Goodbye, new prints. Hello, BAD IDEA SIMPLICITY ™. Remember that the BAD IDEA method also means no variants, no trades, no digital, select stores, and no more than two comics per month – just monthly comics sold in comic book stores. And now, when our first prints are all gone, you can rest assured that you will still get a NON FIRST PRINT to read without having to pay variant prices.

Want to learn more about BAD IDEA and our insanely rational plans to take comics one by one? Start with ENIAC # 1 – the highly anticipated spectacular FIRST ISSUE debut and the 48-page debut of BAD IDEA by Matt Kindt, Doug Braithwaite and Diego Rodriguez. Landing in select comic book stores around the world on March 3, 2021, only two undercover agents need to save the 21st century from the 20th century’s greatest secret: ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) – one government sanctioned Artificial intelligence that secretly defied its creators to end World War II in Nagasaki, but subsequently created a far more powerful threat. Now, after decades in the shadows, ENIAC is about to execute its final with a countdown that could wipe humanity once and for all.

And that’s just the beginning, because in spring and summer 2021 we will have even more attention-grabbing new releases on the shelves, such as:
