Primera Technology, Inc. (“Primera”), a leading manufacturer of specialty color printers, today announced that Eddie, the world’s first and only NSF and GMP certified edible ink printer for printing on biscuits and other groceries, is now shipping.
Quick and easy to use
Eddie prints on cookies, candy, white chocolate, biscuits, macarons, and more, quickly and easily. The device prints a dozen 89mm biscuits or similar items in just two minutes. The carousel feeder supplied turns the cookies into the printing position, the printer pulls in the cookies one by one, prints them out and sends them back to the carousel – all automatically and hands-free.
Printed biscuits or other food items are dry and ready for sale immediately after printing. Printed images are bright, vivid, smudge-proof and even color-coordinated with the ICC color standards. For these reasons and more, Eddie is truly a professional edible ink printer and unique in its category.
Eddie prints on a variety of foods, including certain frostings or directly on biscuits, biscuits, and more. Although bakeries may want to develop their own icings and frostings, for best results, Primera sells a bulk frosting mix that provides optimal whiteness and print quality. For applications such as entertainment or meetings and events, pre-frozen sugar biscuits are also available in large quantities from Primera.
Eddie is ready to use right out of the box and can print items from 3.0 “to 3.5” with a maximum thickness of 0.75 “. With the purchase of custom trays, this can be expanded to accommodate items from 38mm to 114.5mm.
Lots of uses
Personalization is all the rage in today’s consumer and B2B markets. Here are just a few ideas on how Eddie can make new profits in commercial settings from bakeries to amusement parks:
- Print on cookies and candy for birthday parties, baby showers, bar or bat mitzvahs, for Christmas and Christmas gifts, and more.
- Cookies printed with company logos make a big impression as a promotional gift for trade fairs, meetings and other special occasions.
- Wedding planners, hotels and restaurants look forward to offering custom-printed items for wedding receptions, anniversaries and other celebrations.
- Amusement parks and FFCs can use Eddie to print custom images reminding them of their customers’ time at the facility. Built-in blue and green lights will light up and may even blink during the printing process. Crowds will gather and watch Eddie at work while the built-in light show compliments his performance.
Cookies for Eddie typically cost between $ 0.35 and $ 1.50. Add $ 0.08 for ink at 50% coverage and calculate $ 3.00 to $ 5.00 per cookie. The profit margins can quickly pay off for the machine.
Certifications for the food industry
Eddie is unique in commercial food preparation for many reasons, but none is as important as safety. Although edible ink printers have been sold and used in commercial applications such as photo cake for more than a decade, none of them have been approved for this use by recognized third-party certification organizations, making manufacturer liability a serious concern.
Instead, Eddie was designed from the start to meet or exceed any legal requirement for its specific purpose as an edible ink digital printer. Approvals for the USA, Canada and Europe have already been secured. Further certifications for other global regions are in progress.
Eddie’s additional certification from NSF is an industry first: this prestigious organization has not yet approved any other digital printer using edible ink. NSF certification assures Eddie’s owners and customers that the product has been tested and approved by one of the most respected, independent certification organizations available today. The NSF mark is valued by consumers, manufacturers, retailers and regulators around the world.
Eddie’s inks meet all FDA standards for use as a food additive. The ink cartridge itself also meets the cGMP standards and is independently certified by third parties. After all, the entire ink manufacturing and cartridge filling processes are FDA-compliant and cGMP-certified.
