Peggy Joyce Gilbert
Peggy Gilbert was born on February 22, 1925 in Greenville, Texas, to Rayford and Myrtle (Turner) Bench and died on February 19, 2021, three days before her 96th birthday in Dallas, Texas.
Peggy was a lifelong United Methodist dedicated to the Lord and her family.
She married Clarence “Bub” Gilbert on September 1, 1945 at Lee Street Methodist Church in Greenville. They were married for 67 years until his death in 2013. His career took her to Oklahoma City, Ft. Worth and Austin. During that time she raised three children and worked as a secretary for the Austin Independent School District. She was also a dedicated Longhorns fan.
Peggy and Bub retired in 1990 and moved to Emerald Bay, near Tyler, where they enjoyed the laid-back pace and visits from children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind her sister Billie Summerlin from Greenville, her son and daughter-in-law Charles and Rosann Gilbert from Magnolia, her daughter Kathy Gibbs from Murchison, and her daughter and son-in-law Gaynelle and Don Iglehart from Dallas. She is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
There will be a family service at a later date.
